SEOUL, Jan. 24 (Yonhap) -- Horn Player Yoo Hae-ri (26) is selected as head horn player of WDR Symphony Orchestra Cologne.

Yoo passed the audition held on Jan. 18 and will participate in the WDR Symphony Orchestra Cologne, starting from this summer, according to Kumho Cultural Foundation, on Monday. After a one-year training period, the final appointment will be decided through a vote of members of the symphony orchestra.

WDR Symphony Orchestra Cologne is a German prestigious symphony orchestra, established in 1947. The orchestra continues its reputation in the field of modern music by premiering works by composers of the 20th century, including Igor Stravinsky, Luciano Berio, and Karlheinz Stockhausen.

“It’s an honor to pass the audition and play along with amazing orchestra performers. I will do my best to show the best performance,” said Yoo.

Yoo Hae-ri studied at Yonsei University and Berlin University of the Arts and is currently in the best performer program at the Hanns Eisler School of Music Berlin. Since February 2020, she has been working as a member of the Karajan Academy of the Berliner Philharmoniker.

Yoo, a former Kumho Rising Star in 2021, was the first Korean gold medalist in the International Tchaikovsky Competition, won the Salzburg Mozart Competition in 2020, and the audience award, the Competition Appointed Song Special Award, and Mozart's Best Interpretation Award.

In 2019, she participated as a member of the Pacific Quintet in the Quintet category of the Karl Nielsen International Chamber Music Competition Wooden Quintet and finished second.
